Attorney General Candidate Erik Wallin today commended the decision by the Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, Colonel Doherty, to involve the U.S. Attorney in the investigation of Central Falls Mayor Moreau. "After calling for either the appointment of a special prosecutor or the involvement of the U.S. Attorney back in January and renewing that call just recently, Colonel Doherty made the right decision for this investigation and the people of Rhode Island by involving the U.S. Attorney," Wallin stated. "Avoiding the 'appearance of impropriety' is exactly the reason why this course of action is necessary, and from a prosecution standpoint is prudent," Wallin continued.

Wallin has traveled the state with the message that being committed to fighting corruption requires leadership from the Attorney General. "This is why I have proposed a Public Corruption Task Force, staffed with seasoned prosecutors, investigators and a forensic auditor to immediately initiate an investigation if corruption is suspected, and an Attorney General 24-hr corruption hotline so that Rhode Islanders can provide information and/or tips," Wallin stated.

"People should be able to go to the Attorney General on public corruption issues and be assured that an investigation could occur. This is the type of Attorney General Rhode Islanders deserve, and that I will be."
